G24 Parking Charge Notice, any advice? It was a Sunday & signs don't have times or day
Hi, can't believe we've got another one! The car is registered in my husband's name but I am insured to drive it and I parked in a Wickes car park on a Sunday afternoon for 2 hours. We received this a few days ago (we're actually 6 days in to the 14 day period) - the signage says we can only stay 90 mins free. I wasn't in the store. I've had a quick look at the FAQs but am not sure if there's anything else I could appeal against - particularly the signage? I really didn't think it would be in operation on a Sunday. I've asked a friend if it's recently changed but she's not got back to me. Any guiders would be most gratefully received. Bit worried as apparently yesterday a private parking ticket was upheld by a CC so not sure I'd want to fight it if that's the case. I'm really feeling beaten down and broken by it all at the mo. Cheers Erin.
Hi, I tried to upload images from tinypic.com but it's suddenly told me as a new user I'm not allowed to post links but i've done it before? I don't understand.

Hi could you possibly edit your post and put this link instead for the first image of the p1 of the pcn? someone's just said it's a security risk - i see why, you can identify my care and the time's not blurred. TVM sorry to be a pain

Ignore!
Don't contact them and simply file all the threatening letters from them and their fake debt collectors/solicitors.
That case yesterday sets no preecedent and has a number of the hallmarks of a possible set-up. Don't communicate in any way and your chances of being pursued are miniscule.

Ignore it.
Almost everyone on here and everyone on pepipoo have all ignored private parking tickets. Nothing happens except a series of letters, then they crawl back under their slimy stone.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

1. Penalty charges are legally unenforceable in contracts between private parties. Only actual losses can be claimed, which are invariably zero or negligible amounts in cases like yours.
2. PPC "Appeal" procedures are bogus, all part of the scam, designed to make you think the PPC has legitimacy and legal authority (when they don't). If I wrote to you saying you owe me £95 for reading this post, but you could appeal it by writing a grovelling letter to me, you'd laugh and do nothing. G24's letter to you is equally preposterous, so please laugh at it and ignore it.
3. There is nothing for you to "fight" as there's not a single known case of G24 suing anyone. They are running a mail-based scam which consists entirely of misleading and frightening people into sending them money.
4. You'll get a couple more letters off G24, followed by a couple more letters off CCS Collect who are a trading name of G24. The letters are all a load of nonsense - just ignore them, and they'll give up on you. Nothing will happen to you - no CCJ - no bailiffs - no effect on your credit rating.
G24's boss Adrian King is driving a £75,000 Jaguar XKR - see here - paid for by all the mugs who sent him their money. Don't be another one of those mugs.
If you have any more doubts, please post back on here and we will give you all the reassurance you need.0 -
Blimey! That cutting is today's date (strike that it was first published on 16 sept 2008 - but am sure it's still valid). Very reassuring really... would you definitely advise against getting the car owner to write a letter and saying they're under no obligation to provide names of who was driving etc. I have gathered lack of sign evidence as back up. Just in case it was the first one to get to court?
I was tempted to approach store manager by telephone to see if they'll cancel it (as I've just found out he's cancelled 10 for a local business) but was a bit worried they might say no and reveal my identity.
Have yet to make a decision. I'm certainly not going to pay it. But just not sure I feel strong enough to just ignore it - feel the need to be right upfront and show them which arguments I know are valid in court. Appreciate everyones input really. It's very much helped get a better understanding of it all. Cheers EF0 -
As above I think to ignore it is the best option. If you start to write to them they'll only think you are more vulnerable to the scam and keep hounding you.0

Yes - Don't waste your time arguing, the less contact the better. Trying to debate with them only prolongs the efforts to browbeat you into paying, as well as linking a name to the vehicle in their eyes.0 -
I truly and honestly believe the chances of you being the first person ever to be sued by G24 are akin to your chances of winning the lottery. And the chances of them actually winning the case (assuming it's defended properly) are akin to your chances of winning the lottery two weeks in a row.
I don't think there's anything to be achieved by corresponding with them. As anewman says, it just shows them you're rattled and it will encourage them to send you more silly letters. If you really feel you must write to them, stick to the pertinent points of law:
A. No privity of contract exists between the Registered Keeper and G24. It's for G24 to prove who the driver was, and the Registered Keeper doesn't have to assist them in this;
B. Penalty charges are unenforceable (Dunlop v New Garage Motor Co [1915] AC 79), so G24 will need to prove any actual losses caused by this breach.0 -
DO NOT IGNORE IT AND DO NOTHING!!
Ignore it and go to Wickes, fill several tolleys with goods and after 1 hour 25 mins abandon the trolleys to go back to your car. Ensure the staff know the reason you have to leave.0
