svc
can anybody answer me the question as to why i am not entitled to claim free school meals for my 7 year old with my annual income being less than £16.000 (much less) Iwas told it was because i recieved child tax credits and working tax credits but this total includes all this plus my wage. so somebody not working having more money than me and getting all their rent and council tax paid can get it i am very confused

If you get WTC you are not entitled to free school meals, however you could be entitled to LHA and CTB. I am not sure what you mean by your last sentence!0

Free school meals
Who is eligible?
Free school meals are not provided automatically. You will be eligible for help if you fall into one of the following six categories:- you receive Income Support
- you receive Job Seeker’s Allowance (income-based)
- you receive Employment Support Allowance (income-related)
- you are entitled to Child Tax Credit, you do not get Working Tax Credit and your family's annual income (as assessed by the Inland Revenue) is not more than £16,040. Anyone receiving Working Tax Credit is not entitled to free school meals regardless of their income.
- you get support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- you receive the guarantee credit element of Pension Credit.

Its different for in scotland, as I get working tax credits and I am entitled to free school meals for my son. But your actual income (wages) had to be no more than a certain amount.0
