Rollback - Total Con?

During the post Christmas period I did a load of grocery shopping online with Asda, however couldn't check out as it transpired they'd cancelled all deliveries to my area due to the adverse weather.
A few days ago I revisited Asda online and that old basket of shopping was waiting. Some of the items had been on Rollback when I first added them, but had now returned to 'normal prices'. One thing I noticed immediately was that the 'normal prices' were, almost to a tee, higher than the pre-Rollback prices. In the case of one brand of dog food, the price was nearly 90p dearer than pre-Rollback!:eek:
So is Rollback just another case of pulling the wool over customers' eyes? Items offered at cut price for awhile before bouncing back to a higher 'normal' price than before...presumably because nobody will remember the former price. If that's the case, then a Rollback is no bargain because you'll simply be paying back the saving (and probably paying more if it's an item you buy regularly).

I don't often use Asda so I could be using the wrong phrase. I mean the stuff that's on offer for X period of time. I assumed that was what they call 'rollback', but perhaps it's just a 'special offer'
Whichever phrase you use, what they're doing is bouncing back to higher prices than before the offer was on.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

If "rolled back" prices were for good, they have been rolled back so many times that ASDA would be paying us to take the stuff off their shelves.
They roll the prices back, and then roll them forward when you are not looking.0 -
I have found that Tesco do this too, an item is on special offer but when the offer ends the price goes up to more than it was before - sometimes just pennies, but sometimes quite a bit more.0

Woodpecker 4pk was £3.11 couple of weeks ago. Now it is £3.48 on "rollback"!
More like a rollup!0 -
i think asda management think their customers are too stupid to notice, in the most part this would be true from what i see on a day to day basis, but you have caught them out!Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)
new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,0000 -
