From today Sky+HD is the new standard box from Sky. When signing up or upgrading the only box supplied will be the HD box. In fact if you go to the website now you will see this (although I think a standard box is still available for multiroom). If you dont take the HD Pack there will be a cost for the box. However, all people upgrading or signing up who have never subscribed to the HD Pack before and subscribe to it will get the box for free (+ installation fee).

Also rumours that the 500GB version is about to enter the supply chain.

In addition a new Premium 1TB box has been made available for £249 + Installation for those who want more space.

What will happen if/when my current Sky+ box gives up the ghost and it needs replacing?
I don't have a HDTV so have no reason to pay the extra £10 HD charge!

    Thanks

Engineers will continue to receive a supply of Sky+ refurbs to replace broken boxes on call out.

The new policy means HD boxes are available without subscribing to the HD pack although you will then need to pay for the box where as the box is free if you take the HD Pack for 12months.

HD boxes work on non HD TV's by using Scart connection.

If I've read correctly you only get the free installation if you take multiroom too, otherwise it's £60 for existing customers.

That was touted by Sky when I did my HD course in 06,they were waiting till the HD customer base was large enough to do it.
