Club is the best accomodation that Pontins offer, you get free electricity etc. On the other "ranks", you have to pay for your electricity. Pontins is rather dated at the moment but they are doing it up soon. It's what you make it really :D

The Pontins at Blackpool closed down, so I guess it could be Southport?

We went to the Southport Pontins a couple of years ago and to be honest I wasn't at all impressed with it. Theres onsite activities for the kiddies and the usual entertainment and eating establishments. The best part was it was close to the beach.

We did have to purchase leccy cards though.

The Southport one is awful, we used to go to the Blackpool one at least once a year as the food was in with the price and yummy but it has closed now.

  • i wouldn't go to pontins again. i hated it and came home early. it was one of those sun holidays but if i'd have paid full price i'd have been well miffed. Thed facilities were in need of revamp, entertainment venues etc seemed grubby and dirty, went to look at the pool and swore i wasn't putting a toe in it. And the acommadtion was filthy and uncomfortable. Very thin mattresses, silly double bed settee thing, grubby linen,........ i could go on,
This was the brean site in somerset so cant comment on the one you're looking at

I went to Pontins southport with an elderly relative for the christmas party weekend.I have to say it was ok.I went a coupple of years ago and stayed budget and said never again. But this time we stayed in the middle of the range and it was fine, clean and newish. The top of the range was better and we got talking to people who had stayed there and they said it was fab.The children loved the entertainment and there is always stuff to do and even the od one was very impressed with it for the price and she is used to 5* hotels abroad!

Your experience of Pontins will depend on your expectations. Personally I would never book to stay in Budget accomation again, I was booked in Prestatyn Sands Budget but after seeing the disgusting state of it, I eventually managed to get a free upgrade to classic.

Classic accommodation is very basic, outdated and worn but is acceptable, for comparison, it's not as nice or as a clean as a Travelodge room (I have also stayed in classic at Blackpool & Southport). I haven't stayed in Club accomadtion, but It looks very nice from what I have seen of it.

The Southport accommodation is quite good and is on par with other Pontins & Haven sites for entertainment and activities etc but Southport is a long way (by road) from Blackpool.

One positive thing for Pontins is that some of there planned entertainment activity upgrades look great, however these are planned to open in Summer 2010, so may be too late for your stay.
  • if your very clean and like posh it defo isnt for you. we went twice last year to southport and once to prestatyn. we just stayed in the budget but my friends stayed in the club. when we stayed in budget in feb half term it cost us £28 mon-fri for electric as its pay as you go. it was so cold all week. where as my friends had club accomodation and there electric was in with there price. when we went in june in budget again, we only used £3 of electric and we used the room more.
its ok to just get your head down, cook a meal and then escape and use the facilities. the club prices are alot cheaper than haven and they normally give you vouchers for 3 for 2 on things like drinks and food etc.
club accomodation is much nicer and if you can afford it i would defo go for that as they are much newer and cleaner and warmer.
  • I took my kids to Pontins the one close to Bristol about 3 years ago. The accomodation we had was absolutely disgasting!!! I can`t believe that I stayed there, never saw a smaller kitchen or a cooker in my life, just about fitted a small pizza in! Two tiny rooms for 4 people, one was bedroom/living room and absolultely filfy.
This was some kind of two free nights although they made my buy one more night. So obviously got the worst accomodation under the sun.

The only thing was that the kids absolutely loved the freadom they got there, swimming pool, entertainment, the fruit machines, they could do it all by themselves while I was bored watching TV. They gave them some free vouchers to do rockcliming, zipwire and something else can`t remember.

So It was awfull for me ,but the kids love it. Because we don`t normaly do this sort of holidays.
I would get the best room you can if you are considering to go.
  • I love Pontins

we stayed there a few times last year at the site in North Wales.

we didnt have any problems at all but for some reason The North Wales site seems to get all the not so nice people from Liverpool staying!!!! but apart from them we had a brill time and would go back again.
  • We went to Pontin's Southport last June with the Sun vouchers. It was so hot, which was good as we spent a lot of time on the beach and out of the chalet.

We upgraded to the highest level possible and wondered if you could get any lower? I would recommend to upgrade, they were doing up new ones when we were their so hopefully they are upgrading them all?
