Because it doesn't. Put the self cleaning stuff "n" feet up on a high rise and it will not appear to hold the dirt in the same way that ordinary glass does. But it will NOT be completely clean. Put it low down where you can physically see it and it will be clear to you why I say this.

Use it on a conservatory roof expecting it to keep itself clean and and you'll be bitterly disappointed. Anyway bird poo is bird poo - if you get my drift.

    Cheers

    Thats a pretty strong view.

I have to agree that yes it does not remove baked on bird droppings (and neither does it claim to!) but we have sold lots of this product in the commercial sector to schools, offices, Govt Buildings etc and have never had any complaints from any of the users!

I have been using Polymer products such as Rain-X, Interface, Clear-X, Repcon, and Rainracer on Cars, Boats, Planes and even house, conservatory, office/shop windows since 1988 and found them extremely helpful – if applied correctly as per the instructions and used for their intended purpose...the downside for these polymer based products is the longivity of the application, on car windows - 4 weeks, side screens - 6 months, house windows - <>2 years!

Self Clean products these days are normally based on a Ti02 Hydrophillic/photocatalytic system as opposed to the hydrophobic characteristics of the earlier polymer based products (named above) which were not activated by the photocatalytic actions of direct light. Whereas the self-clean glass market was previously restricted to new glass from the factory, there is now an application process available that makes this process available in-situ to home owners, schools, hospitals, factory’s etc, with an active life period of >5 - 50 years.

Thank you. Yes perhaps it is a strong view but my point is that "makes it easier to keep clean" is a million miles away in practical terms from "self cleaning". Are commercial users that bothered? Its someone elses job to clean the windows!

If I were of less of a generous disposition I might be inclined to think that you have a vested interest in contributing to this thread which would make your post Spam VPT!

  • No SPAM intended...Just passing on information - and I believe I refered to "Using" - not selling!
