Electronic limescale remover

There is no scientific evidenxce that they do work, there are a number of tests you can find which disprove their efficacy. Beware the one which claims to work (Bath uni IIRC) where the manufacturers claim is notr what was actually being tested
... except I have one, and I have not got any limescale build up. When I did not have one, I did get limescale.
So, hhmmm, let me see - Does it work ????0 -
I may need to be careful about fitting a socket, as boiler is in a cupboard within the bathroom. Other option would be fitting on cold supply at ground level.
I wouldn 't not zonedDo you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0 -
There is a reasonably balanced discussion about magnetic water softeners at http://www.chem1.com/CQ/magscams.html. You pays your money etc...
I am a water treatment process designer. I moved to a hard water area and got cheesed off with all the lime scale everywhere, so decided to take some action.
Within the engineering community, these electromagnetic treatments are generally not used. To find out why, I went to the scientific journals to see what they said.
Basically, these electromagnetic devises work sometimes and don't work at other times. Various studies have indicated the effects last for different lengths of time. The studies have shown no repeatability. Nobody has provided a robust explanation of how these things work.
If you were putting one of these devices on your large waterworks, and it was to cost you thousands of pounds, you can't reliably state whether or not it will have any effect at all, so it is not done.
Give it a go on your own home, and I am always interested to hear what happens, even if it is anecdotal.
As for me, I went for polyphosphate dosing on my hot water only, and it has made a noticable difference, but then if you have a lot of magnesium in your water, polyphosphate dosing probably won't work for you.0 -
I have a HS38 made by Hydropath fitted on mine on the cold water feed, and can honestly say i haven't had a problem with limescale since. mine was recommended and fitted by a BG Engineer, but you can buy them and fit them yourself apparently, all you need is a plug socket somewhere near the boiler.0

I would simply like to know if the cartridge or coil system works - ideally without the dodgy side chat

When I was attending my water treatment post, it was stated that the only real and reliable way to stop scale was to fit a water softner.
We were told that all these other gizmos, my work but one may work in your house, but for some reason may not work in your neighbours.
If it works for you then good, you are getting your money's worth, but generally I would advise, 'buyer beware'.0 -
If you've nowt more useful to contribute, then try sitting quietly and eat your sweets, there's a good lad.
I'm the only one who seems to have made a useful contribution to this thread
