Selling a car ... where/how to advertise?

We are getting rid of our car, I would imagine it has very little worth although it has been an excellent runner and not once broken down. :(
We inherited it (a K reg, automatic) from my grandma with 8k on the clock, it now has 45k but we need a five door car with power streering :o. Been fully serviced and well maintained from birth :D ... would be sad to scrap it as it has been so reliable so, anyone know if you can find out a value of 'older'cars or where to sell them on? Have tried valuations on parkers but too old and other websites you have to pay. Cannot find any other cars of same make or model online! :o

If you stick it on Ebay with a low starting price, people will bid what they think it is worth to them. Being an automatic might bump the price up a little.

    You didn't mention the brand/model :) although I don't think there's many classic K reg cars sadly.

You could try a valuation with webuyanycar.com but my bet is it will say £50 and that means they take it to the crusher.

Just looking at completed sales on eBay you should be able to get over £100 for it may be up to £300 if it really is tidy. I would put it on eBay no reserve starting price £1 I have done this with a24 year old Renault 5 and 30 year old Land Rover and both times walked away with a fair price. Alternatively put the message out if you know anyone who is laring to drive and needs a first car.

I have always had the best results with autotrader, for cheap cars it doesn't even cost that much.

Ebay, but list it and sell it so the listing and final value fees are the lowest possible.
You could try it in classics as they put all sorts in there especially as there won't be many about now.

If it's a real minter I wonder if someone on a Rover forum would be interested.

    Thanks everyone.
Will try the free options first, not sure what to ask for it yet. Then will move to ebay.
It is top condition and cannot fault it, never let us down (it replaced our 3 year old freelander that we had had no end of problems with!!!). It was kept garaged for 9 years and serviced every year, only driven by the gardener as my gran went blind after buying it.
It has 6m tax and mot so if I put it on ebay with a starting price of £1 I could be losing money (unless I claim back the tax but that would presumably put some off.)
Due to the make/model I am a little doubtful it will sell anywhere (even with the history) but will give it a go! :D

It shouldn't actually. So long as the buyer intends to drive legally (i.e. be insured and the registered owner, and the car is MOT'd) all they have to do is get insured then go down the post office with the documents. Some suggest removing the tax is a good idea to prevent the drivers who like to drive without insurance getting their hands on your car (especially with cheaper ones). Something I have seen people do on ebay is state if the bidding goes above £x tax will be included.

You could advertise it as the tax can be purchased seperately, but if you do this make sure you put it in your advert and anyone bidding or buying is made aware of the fact. On another motoring thread on MSE someone is wanting an automatic car for short term usage (might be worth a look).

PS If you offer to sell the tax and the purchaser doesn't want it you can still cash it in.
