Hello OP,
If you go to the nearest big library, you may well find you can borrow some exercise DVDs and try them out.
See what you like, what you hate and what you might be able to put up with in the long term...then you can go on a well-known auction site to get cheap second-hand versions of the ones you like best.
This way you can make sure you're not landed with one expensive one you don't like, and can ring the changes with a few bargain ones.
Good luck with the exercise regime - hope you enjoy it!

I strongly recommend the Ministry of sound DVDs. I have been using those ones for a few years now and have quite a few of them. They have good exercises, good music and they are hard to get bored of.0

I used to have a really good workout tape by Beverly from Coronation Street [sorry can't remember her name]. It was quite tough and effective, also I know the lady is a proper fitness instructor.0

Thanks to all who replied and for the suggestion of using my local library...i hadn't even thought of that!
I'll get on the case
I'm still laughing about the legs behind head and being able to stand on one leg thing haha :rotfl:0 -
Hi Caseyface.
If you love to dance I would really recommend the Ministry of Sound dvds. I got an oldish one (2008 I think) off play.com for £6.
I've found it tricky (!) as I'm not particularly co-ordinated but it is one hell of a work out - 1.15hr. It'd broken into 6 sections so you dont have to do it all at once! Loads of different dance moves it's great!
I'm just at 10 stone, starting WW on Saturday to shed hopefully 1.5 stone.
Ditto this, I had a few of the MOS ones and they are fab. But very hard work if you're not a little fit to begin with.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

I recommend Billy Blank's Tae Bo, they really build up stamina and muscle strength, but you will find it hard going at first if you're doing it properly. I also practice Iyengar yoga, which is very measured and calm as a large part of it is focusing on breathing well.
The important thing for you to focus on is your priority. If it's in getting fit, then exercise and try to eat well (but don't diet or cut out food groups.) If it's to slim down, then by all means go on a diet as well. Bear in mind that diets are short term solutions only."All cruelty springs from weakness" - Lucius Annaeus SenecaPersonal pronouns are they/them/their, please.

If you have a wii Just Dance is great, :T
Seconded. And The Biggest Loser - once you get through the talkybit at the start. I got it yesterday and I am LOVING it! It's amazing! You can do single exercises or workouts - and there's a warm up/cool down session too, it's easier than the Wii Fit - but I felt it more in all the right places and the instructor talks you through it all.
Rebecca Wheately's is good - it's all very gentle to start with and it increases as you get more used to it/moving.0 -
I love the Davinia workouts they are all great, split into sections, the music is good and once you get the hang of it, or fed up with the chat you can turn the talking off and have just music - there are a couple of box sets which are fab0

I lost three stone with Davina's first workout DVD, two of that is back on now! My own fault i didn't keep it up and went back to eating what i liked. Have just bought her new one so on Monday i will start on it.0
