following advice i have now started listing items for 99p inn the hope the price may rise. well so far they havent and all items i have gone for 99p. i never was sure i had my facts straight on the charges for selling and buying. selling so cheap makes it even more important that i do understand what i am being charged. so am i right in thinking that the only charge i incurr for selling is the 20p listing fee and the gallery charge, and thats it for selling!!! then if i buy something i also pay paypal for using them to pay for items? is this right or am i missing some other charges, can never figure it out from bill, need it spelling out in basic english please?

You also pay a final value fee (a percentage of your 99p)
I'd skip the gallery unless the items you're selling are particularly attractive looking
My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
is that for selling and buying? and how much does that work out too?.... think you right about the gallery!0

You only pay fees when you sell.My TV is broken!

Here is a calculator, I think you may be horrified when you see the charges.
If you list and sell for 99p and use the Gallery feature your costs are,
15p Listing fee
15p Feature fee (gallery)
5p Final value fee
If you were to accept paypal that would be a further 23p made up of 3.4% + 20p. Toatal cost 58p.
Leaving you 41p from each sale minus your initial stock cost.

No, as a buyer you wouldn't incur any charges, only when you are selling do you incur charges.
It is also worth remembering that you only have to list to incur a charge even if that item doesn't sell...that is often overlooked as well.

I was led to believe that you can have 1 picture on the gallery for free
so just use the free gallery picT&C APPLY0 -
I was browsing ebay today and saw a seller with videos and DVD's on buy it now for 50p. The p&p charges were not excessive.
I cannot believe anyone would go to all the trouble of taking pics/listing/packing/mailing etc for that amount.
(edited to say that surely they must be losing money at that price?)0 -
The above figures are almost right, but there's one more thing: Paypal fees are payable on the whole of the payment received, including p&p not just the sale price, so that adds another few pence to the total.Road_Hog wrote:Here is a calculator, I think you may be horrified when you see the charges.

I tend to use cheap listing days (ebay have offers like 5p listing or 1p gallery from time to time) for items I expect to go for 99p. Gallery is an important feature for some items such as clothes, but some items (e.g. CDs) will tend to sell just as well (or not) with or without gallery. If you're not sure whether to use gallery, ask yourself whether it would be important to you as a buyer to know what the item looks like.
I also only have a Personal Paypal account, which does not charge fees, but this means that I am not allowed to tick the "I accept Paypal" box when listing, because I can't accept payments made using a credit or debit card.0 -
