Op - I think you are just missing something somewhere - my partners VW Sharan was 4 years old last October so around the same vintage as yours - I was quite clear when I bought it that it needed changing at 60K or 4 years - thats what the service book states. In our case it had done 55K anyway so would have hit the mileage limit soon. Dealer price was almost the same as the local inde and they changed the water pump for an extra 25 quid for piece of mind0
