You're the first non-American person who's ever known what I was talking about - I got into them because my mum kept hers from when she was a child.

i read anything i could when i was younger. enjoyed these as then america seemed such a magical place to live.
the head librarian in the local library got me interested in several authors. she would check i could read a random paragraph and then see how i got on with it. i used to get 3 books 3 2 or 3 times a week. :o

Susan: Do you want these? I kept them because they are so pretty but they are just lying around and I'm too sentimental to throw them away.

Wezl - have you ever looked at hunting for meat/fish? initial investment would be high I suppose :undecided

My OH fishes but its only really trout we have in this area. We don't eat it but the dog does! He loves fresh fish and its river to his bowl within about 3 hrs so couldn't be any fresher. He sits at the oven when its cooking, collies are too clever for their own good

Nomnomnomnomnom Venison .... I used to buy half a beast (share with a colleague) through work, and the Ranger would butcher it for us, so we'd have joints and steaks and mince and stewing steak. Would last for months. Haven't had venison since I moved down here :(

it's reassuring to meet a man with a higher calorie need than my DH! He's on 4000 a day and still slim.

(All the BWSC now hate my DH :rotfl:)

How do you do it sami?
errm.. expensively :o I've neve totted up his cals but I'd guess its similar to ur DH actually, what do you put in his lunch box besides sarnies and a bit of cake? Hubby would never eat a hummus sandwich like yours though
    he has
B: coffee with 4 slices of spread soaked toast
    10am; coffee break with a sandwich/cake/choccy
L: 2 sandwiches(sliced meat/prawn or tuna mayo) or 1 and pasta or large pasta thing, snack, fruit
    3pm: coffee break with snack
    6pm: cheese/yoghurt/toast
D: large evening meal, large dessert
    8/9pm 'snack' 4 slices of soaked toast/cheese/yoghurt

plus various cups of coffee, up to a litre of OJ and some beer/wine/fizzy drink through the day

    Oink! :rotfl:

I used to dream of living close enough to be able to go to the library that often. My mum used to let me use her tickets as well as my own so that we didn't need to go so often and then when I was older I used to get nine books out every week (you were allowed ten but I had the same book out permanently for about six years). Our librarians weren't very friendly or interested in children though - my mum is very impressed by all the stuff I've told her about the librarians in our village library.

no he's just a tall chap with a fast metabolism :)

DH in his 2 sandwiches has a mixture of: sun-dried tomato hummus or HM pate or grated cheese with chutney, and cos his mum used to do it for him at school and he likes it, jam or marmalade sometimes:o

He takes HM shortbread or coffee cake too at the mo.

    breakfast is porridge and toast

dinner last night was cheese omelette with HM potato wedges and peas and then jam sponge with custard.

He won't usually have 5 fruit and veg a day unless we are doing a challenge cos it fills him up and then he goes too skinny :(
