What operating system are you using, if its XP or Vista then no Windows Moviemaker will not edit them.
The Windows 7 , Windows Live Moviemaker will work.
Hopefully someone will be able to advise on file conversion.
I'm using vista. I was able to edit my other video on here though.. mmm.

I suppose you have to convert it to a format that Window Movie Maker will accept.
