Are t-mob right about my signal?

I called to cancel my t-mobile contract as I have awful reception in a lot of places. The lady on the phone checked and said that my signal should be great on 2G and that I just have to turn off 3G...
Does this make sense to anyone and if so is it true?

Yes could be true - I have a variable 3G signal but if I swotch phone to 2G I gat a constant good signal

Not much use if you want a 3G service though

Thanks both for your help. I'll give it a go then - thought maybe it was just a con, will prob still switch though!
Any idea what I'd want 3G for then?

Looking at your area you'd be hard pressed.

T-Mobile Coverage shows Heathfield as 2G only with quite a number of dead spots:

OS shows lots of contour lines, which would explain the dead spots:

Ofcom's Site Finder shows locations of mobile base stations:
    https://www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk

Those I found in your area for O2, Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile are all 2G only (check their websites just to be sure). There is a "3" base station in Heathfield, so if you want 3G then 3's your only option.

3G for surfing the net and emails to name but two things.

You can do both those things on 2g, it'll just be slower. Locking a phone to 2g will nearly always improve the signal level
  • yup its true... 2g saves battery life too in comparison to leaving a handset on 3g.
does my bum look big in this sig?
