Have they surfed before? Fistral is generally for more experienced surfers, if they are beginners they might be better off trying one of the other beaches.

(says she who has never surfed in her life!) :D

Surfing lessons are available on just about every beach. If they're staying at the Travelodge, then check out surfing lessons on Great Western Beach and Tolcarne Beach. Tolcarne Beach is best if you have surfers/non surfers as there's an organic produce cafe (cheapish prices) at the beach where the non surfers can sit and scoff a burger while watching the others. Surfing tends to cost (rule of thumb) £25 for a 3 hour lesson.

Also check out coasteering: you wear a wetsuit and walk along the rocks, leaping into the water and clambering out again.

Alternatively, look into Lusty Glaze Beach, which has some activities on the beach and also a high-wire at the top of the cliffs that you hang onto then whizz across the beach, then you stop mid way and drop down onto the sand.

For clubs, most people would start at Berties and end up at Sailors.

There were some speedboat trips from the Harbour, it was a new business the other year, not sure if that's still going.

All takeaway food is available within 20 yards of the Central Inn... burgers, pizzas, chips, kebabs, pasties, pizzas, chinese, thai.

If you want a "normal" restaurant, then there are chinese, thai, indian. All pubs serve food.

If you want something a bit "posher", then head up to Fistral Beach and there's the Windswept Cafe on the left hand end (as you're looking out to sea) and Fistral Blu in the big Surf Centre by the big red Headland Hotel.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS: Silks/Atlantic Hotel. No matter who owns it, no matter when you go, no matter what the event ... there's always, always, trouble there.... bad service, appalling attitude. The Atlantic is the big cream one on the headland.

For the BEST cakes, check out Pauline's ... in the pedestrian area you'll see a crowd pawing at the window. Don't try to go to the beach at night - it's banned/you'll be moved on. It used to be lots of drunk people, running naked into the surf; people selling booze/drugs illegally ... and various drunken attacks. They called that "having fun", but it was !!!!!! ... and there'd be up to about 500 very drunk people, away from home, near the dark sea, so a recipe for death.

Also: don't jump off the 100' high cliffs when you're drunk and it's dark and you think it's a shortcut. You'll die ... there are several a year that do this.

Thanks to everyone for their help, its all getting passed on to my big sis for them to decide.
I wil try to answer the questions above.
Sunshinetours-- I think its a set date for the hen and stag doo, so prob cant go any other time.
Hazelrichardson--I wil have a look at Airsouthwest then--i never knew they did flights, thanks.
Geri1965--- No none of them have ever surfed, they are just wanting a laugh and a "Hen activity", will pass that on, cos i think they would rather get proper beginner tuition on the beginners beach!!!
Pasturesnew--- Once again thanks for all your help, they will be well happy with all the info gathered so far, and can go with a plan of what to do and where to go/not to go!!

    Many thanks.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I live in Newquay, be careful as most of the hotel market is aimed at Hen and Stag and they try to get away with very unsatisfactory accommodation for the price. For going out I like the Chy Bar and Berties
