iphone internet connection problems

Hi, I am trying to connect my iphone 3gs to internet using wi-fi.
It is giving me the wireless router option which I have at home. When i select it, it is coming up as password. I put the same password which I use for my wireless router.
But nothing happend and it said 'unable to join the network thomson xxxxx'
Am i missing something here??
I can use my thomson wireless rooter at home isnt it. I presume the router has got the wi-fi facility.
