I am using an old version of Quicken
Quicken 98 to be precise
I know its very old but it does the job perfectly and amazingly it works fine with both Vista and Windows 7 only Quicken no longer support it
The problem I have is that I use it for more than one type of account and keep all accounts in different folders
For example I have a household budget account for one
Then I have an account solely for my ebay and other online transactions
Then I have 2 other businesses which here I will call business 2 and businessw 2
I can be quite happily working on Business 1 and when I am finished a session I usually back up and close it all down
Then I may want to open one of the other accounts, say Ebay transactions
I go to my ebay folder and click on the quicken file saved there
Instead of opening the ebay account in Quicken it opens the last account I was using. In this case Business 1
I try and try but without success. I just cant get it to forget Business 1 and open Ebay account
Can anyone please advise
Thanks

Hi there, many years since I dealt with Quicken Books so excuse the sketchy suggestions I make here.
Firstly you are right as a general account manager it was very good.
I think your problem is in its settings(prefs). Each time quicken closes the default settings are saved to a log to help speed up your next start.
If you can send me that log I would be able to see where it is switching to bring the 1st account in its portfolio.
Has this always been a problem or has it just started?Computers are like me, I get up in the morning and work...until I stop.0 -

I just tried out Microsoft Money and was able to import Quicken files but its horrible.
It seems to assume too much and even talks to me like I was stupid. so that one is not for meIWasLookingBackToSeeIfSheWasLookinBackToSeeIfIWasLookinBackAtHer.....0 -
Ok, the problem has to be OS.
Quicken data is time stamped by the software
I think Quicken 98 was the first version to be Y2K compliant.
To use Quicken 98 for the year 2000 forward the user must set up Windows (and/or Quicken?) to use a 4 digit year format. If you don't, and if you use the default "sort by date" in a Quicken check registry, it will treat dates from year 2000 forward as if from 1900 forward, which the user might realise, since the default only used a 2 digit year format.
This results in entries being moved earlier in the Quicken checkbook register, before any 19xx entries. So what is acatually happening in your case is the the date stamp is not being modified correctly.
