Hi guys,

my car will be 3 years old on sunday 31st of Jan. Am I legally able to drive it on sunday and get the mot done on monday morning?, it's pre-booked.

couldn't get anything earlier as i've been working away.

Cheers,

zaf.

It should be fine, Im sure your allowed 7 days over your due date to have it done. Or maybe thats just if it fails, you get 7 days to get it fixed and passed.

I just got mine done last week and it runs out in a year and one week, which i never noticed on my past MOT's its always been exactly a year.

There is no grace period. Once the MOT has expired it is an offence to drive the vehicle other than to an from a pre-booked MOT.

The MOT is valid until midnight on 31 Jan and as long as the MOT is pre-booked (make sure they have the car reg in their diary) you will be OK.

An MOT can be carried out up to one month in advance and will be valid one year from the expiry of the old certificate or reg date of vehicle if first MOT. This is now done automatically with the computerised system whereas you had to supply the old cert under the previous paper based system.

Just remember that on monday morning the only journey you can make is from were the car is kept to the MOT station, nothing else. So no driving around town before the MOT appointment.

Maybe people aren't aware of it?!? Personally I always use it just in case the car needs any remedial work that can't be done quickly, that way I can still legally use the car :D

Are you sure about that? An MOT only shows the car was fit on the day of test. Not a guarantee that it is road worthy until the expiry date. VOSA could still pull you over at any time to check if car is road worthy.

I think it you took it in a month before your old one expired but the car failed that is still a failure and you couldn't just keep driving the car for another month.

If you take a car for an early MOT and it fails - say it is due in feb but you take it in jan, you can still use the car until the date of the current MOT expires.
