I had a very poor experience in the Arms last year when I commented on a thread about 20 or so regulars who had set up themselves up on an alternative forum where they could talk dirty but also to slag off MSE members. The thread was eventually pulled.
I see the Arms remains the same with ebsay's latest AE and others causing upset and trouble for anyone that will bite. And even those that don't bite are finding the place unpleasant. Here are just a few threads from the first few pages in the arms.

Given the primary purpose of the site is to save money, and the disproportionate resources required to manage the Arms when it is unpleasant, is it time to call time on it?

I think the sole intention in any thread is NOT to bite anyone, sure enough abuse does indeed go on in ALL the threads, the simplest method to avoid those you find insulting, is to click "ignore" solving the issue between you and them.
General abuse and name calling should be reported to the abuse team, which will then deal with a repeat abuser with a ppr.
Closing The Arms thread is not the answer, lots of people use the Arms to wind down, and not everyone in there go around "biting" or "abusing" one another.
There is as much abuse going in the Debt thread, even the "grabbit" or "vent" threads suffer from abusers, however we wont want to delete those threads too, in fact if we were to delete all the threads that get abused, or suffer from users going around "biting" other users. The whole forum would have to be closed down.
In Effect it is not time to call time on the Arms, it is however, time to call time on time abuse or biters, its why we have "ignore" buttons and "report" buttons.
