on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

ok just re-read and realised my brain is working slower than my eyes

i would personally change you can get plent of good free alternatives avast is a good one for virus protection, comodo is a good free firewall, and spyware search and destroy is good anti spyware, malware bytes is also good

Are you saying you have had no AV on your computer for a couple of months?

If you are still having problems with McAfee then switch to Avast ;)

Make sure you use the MCAFEE REMOVAL TOOL
    http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507

Free alternatives are AVAST and AVIRA for main av
    MALWAREBYTES as a secondary scanner

KASPERSKY if you wish to pay (I dont)

some of the free ones are just as good and sometimes better (depending on the comparison you use) a recent one in one of the computer magazines showed avira scored about a 99% detection rate - same as most of the paid for ones and better than some of them (avast was very simular) - for comparison in this test mcafee actually only score 98% for detection

the only thing with the free ones is you dont get a 'suite' with one interface for all your security settings as you have to run different programs for your firewall, anti virus and anti malware/spyware - i personally prefer this as i get to pick and choose which is the best for me and not just get lumped with one size fits all security - which if anyone is honest is never the best solution as nothing that is one size fits all is ever the best at everything!

Mcafee is substantially inferior to alot of the free alternatives, you are incorrect both to think you need to pay to get good protection and also that if you do pay you will necessarily be getting good protection.

Current free favourites are Avast, Microsoft Security Essentials or Avira (the latter only when their update servers are working which have been a bit flaky recently). Also if you bank with Barclays you can get a fee copy of the (normally paid for) Kaspersky AV product which is also very good.

If you have been without AV for a period or using Mcafee and now want to move to an AV product that detects an acceptable level of comuuter viruses I'd suggest going through the Malwarebytes /Hijack this process to check for infections and malware

My personal opinion is Mcafee is s***
Far too bloated, major resource hog and doesnt do anything better than other free alternatives

Macfee really is at the bottom of the pile in mind

The freebie ones are very good ~ but nothing will ever protect you 100%

AVAST ~ very good with email scanning
AVIRA ~ slighlty better detection rates with no email scanning

MALWAREBYTES ~ on demand scanner which is awesome for free

FIREFOX with the NOSCRIPT plugin ~ So long as its used wisely it makes browsing the internet (Easiest way to get a virus for most people) bomb proof

Other ones to consider are ~
SPYBOT (I use it mainly for its IMMUNISE feature)
SUPERANTISPYWARE (In case malwarebytes misses something)
DR WEB (When things are looking dire)
SANDBOXIE ~ for all things via the net

How good? As good as, if not better - Avast IMO (some here say AVG); pay? - no, completely unnecessary IMO; excellent choice of completely free anti -virus/-malware protection software  .
