i am due af today which will be the withdrawal bleed from ending my pill on sunday. should i start counting from today to get the length of my next 'proper' cycle?

fingers crossed my body goes back to normal - i am expecting to have a bit of problems as i have been on the pill for soooo long.

    Hi Pebbles

I can't help on getting the exact length of your proper cycle but just to help, i'm in the same boat. Came off the pill beginning of march, had a couple of bleeds, then in April i had 3 bleeds, each lasting 4 days each. My last one was 29th April, so i knew if my cycle was returning to what it 'should' be then i would be due on today. I came on yesterday, so near enough to the day and i'm hoping that they are now regulated, although we're all different.

p.s i was on the pill since being 15 and i'm 27 now!

I would count day 1 of your withdrawl bleed as CD1 to give you an idea of when you should be ov'ing (which could be around CD14) and treat this month as a bit of a trial. The first day of your next bleed will then give you an idea of cycle length even if they arent fully recovered from the effects of the pill. Hopefully you'll catch the egg this cycle and you wont even need to know what your normal cycle length is!! :D

I think you'll know when AF is getting back to normal rather than a withdrawal bleed, it feels different! Mine became shorter, heavier and I got period pains with proper AF.

    HTH's :)

Seems you are gearing up for ov!:j

    How did you tell him?

If AF arrives, then count this as CD1. What do you mean by withdrawal bleed?
    Is it like pre-AF spotting?
withdrawal bleed is what you get when you are on the pill. it's not a 'proper' period as such - the pill is making your body do it.

thanks for the advice everyone. i came off the pill with the idea of getting my cycles back to normal before ttc. if i am lucky enough to get pg in the first few cycles i will be happy but not expecting miracles!

i am going to start temping just so i can see what my body is doing.

:rotfl:After all my plans of making a grand gesture nothing seemed right in the end and I pretty much just blurted it out straight away....a bit like how he proposed! :rotfl:

Just wanted to say to those coming off BCP it does take a little while for things to settle down but it will. The biggest problem I found was that I had no idea what was actually normal for me since I had been on the pill since I was 16. I was also paranoid that I wasn't ov'ing (not helped by the OPKs not working for me) and temping was brilliant since, for me, this gave a really strong indication that everything was actually fine.

On the OPKs I did not get a single positive result testing in the afternoon despite very clear temp shifts showing OV. On my last cycle a random test in the evening did give a very strong + OPK result (test that afternoon was neg). I would therefore agree not to rely on OPKs alone and to try testing at different times of day if they're not working for you.

Q, how long are your cycles normally? We're CB's for now & mine is usually 29 days.

Hi - AF was due yesterday (CD 38) but no sign yet - when should I test? We only managed to get one bout of BDing in, on the Sunday afternoon and OV stick showed positive on the Wednesday so is there any chance?
