my laptop has just died
i've got the battery lead connected but when i try and switch it on i just get the orange battery light flickering then goes off nothing happens with the laptop
any ideas please?

The power cable was disconnected when you took the battery out?
Then you could try powering it up with just the cable and no battery.
You should probably phone the manufacturer for assistance.0 -

windows failed to start insert your windows installation disc

That's progress! It's powering up. So check your manual or HP support site and find out how to invoke your recovery function; it should have a recovery partition.
Hopefully you'll be able to recovery the system but if you do then you'll lose any information that is stored on it.0 -

I would urge you to check HP's site. It's really not difficult at all.
I used to do these recoveries for Currys customers every day.0
