What's so fun about the new Fiesta?

I keep reading everywhere about how the Fiesta is fun to drive. On VW Polo reviews they say 'not as fun as the Polo'. So what is fun about it? What does that actually mean? I presume it just means the handling, like it flies around corners or something.

You got it, "fun" refers to handling. It will have a certain feel,of chuck ability and be asking to be given the beans a bit. It does to some degree depend on the driver as well and the spec of the particular car. If you are considering the 2 go and drive both to see what you prefer, the Polo should feel more steady and solid (I don't know I have not driven either). I would go for the Fiesta if the budget did not stretch to a Mazda 2. Or a Suzuki Swift that is all so rated as a "fun" car.
  • Modern road tester speak which means absolutely nothing to 99% of people if they but knew it in normal daily use, but keeps said testers in good books with Ford or whoever happens to be flavour of the month.

Once (and only once) foolishly watched a 5th gear program where the resident twerp was testing small cars likely to be bought by retired folk and others on a budget, 2 that i recall were a Kia Rio and Suzuki WagonR...said idiot was belting these things round the track trying his best to get the tyres off the rims.
What that display proved apart from confirming the testers lunacy was that the 5th gear road test was about as much use as a chocolate teapot to likely buyers, i'm quite sure all the senior citizens thinking of buying the WagonR were convinced of the virtues and convenience and ease of use of that car following said useful appraisal.;)

For a much more sensible and uselful test of a car try Honestjohns car by car and road test guide.

The Fiesta is OK, but has become relatively expensive for what it is.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Just as well, because they are not capable of giving one.:)

I would be surprised if that was the exact wording.

Probably 'not as fun to drive as the fiesta'

And by that they mean the fiesta handles better and gives an overall better driving experience.

I guess drive both to see what they mean.

The O/P was describing reviews he had 'read', not on TV

I was reading in Jeremy Clarkson's book of his Sunday Times articles (thanks Santa!) a column about the life of a newspaper car reporter. He basically said that they're not that well paid but for car unveilings and test drives etc they often get flown first class and put up in 5* hotels all expenses paid. They then get goody bags worth £1000s before they are flown home to write their articles.

These sorts of things are the main benefits to their job so none of them in their right mind would risk upsetting the car manufacturers or they won't get invited on the next one. So basically they write whatever they are told to!

I had a new Fiesta as a hire car for a few days.

It's a very good car indeed. Much has been made of the recent price rises but what matters is the transaction price.

It is a chuckable car, much more so than the Corsa. And it does it with fluency of ride and avoids that horrible lumpy and bumpy harsh Germanic type ride.

Only the fussy styling puts me off a little.
