Can I claim?

Someone has mentioned to me that we might be entitled to claim council tax benefit. As a quick background, I am currently not working, I am an at home mum of a 7 and 3 year old. My partner works but earns under the £58,000 ceiling. We do not currently claim for anything as I thought that we were not entitled to. I do not want to apply and look silly but on the other hand every little bit helps and since I gave up work times are obviously harder than before.
Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks

Are you sure about the benefit you are asking about?

because you wont get a council tax rebate on your husbands wages.

Sorry but you wouldn't be entitled to council tax benefit, have you tried WTC?

Karenx - that's incorrect - I calculate that she would be due about £66 per quarter on a salary of £58k
I suggest the OP goes on line to the government Tax credit website and goes through their "Do I qualify" questionnaire.

If that is before tax then possibly my other half earns 15,000 ish and we should be entitled to a tenner a week I think theres an online calculator somewhere you can check on these things.

You do talk some nonsense! A couple earning £58,000 (if that is what the OP's income is) will not qualify for WTC.
    Gone ... or have I?

Child tax credits would be available though.
