I thought there had been enough publicity in the last 18 months on TV and on here for people not to get scammed by Red obviously some people must have missed it.....

Always always always read the fine/small print!!
Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.
  • We didn't get the interest free but we were lied to about potential earnings and timescale and as it was a complete change of career, the helpdesk did not help and kept referring us back to the training manual which did not contain the information. We decided not to continue and wrote to red who told us they had gone into administration & tough luck. We are saddled with a £4k loan and nothing to show for it. We we appalled at lack of service, lies and what appeared to be unethical trading. How can we stop paying for something we haven't received?
  • You would have been given a cooling off period to cancel.

Why did you apply for a loan if you were unemployed?

The cooling off period is 7 days from the date of signing - and has to be received in writing. The fact that they alledge to have never received it numerous times from numerous people just reinforces the scam in my opinion :(

When did you sign up? If you signed before June 2009 and were told the realistic timescale to complete 1,2 and 3 was 16-20 weeks (absolutely ridiculous estimate) then you may be able to actually take them to the small claims court. Their literature pre June 2009 actually documents this so can be used as evidence. If you had to work in order to survive (and therefore couldn't complete the course due to the timeframe being vastly more than you were told rather than just change your mind) you may have success. Last year Red were successfully taken to court by an individual for exactly this and it was found in his favour. Do some digging ;)

You are quite right - my husband signed in January 2009 so pre all this information being available. We did do digging but there was barely anything about them then!! 2 years later and still we battle so thanks for your input but most of us on here signed pre the adverse publicity!!!!!!

This is the most important post on this thread...instead of wanting your a-rse wiped read this then act on it...go on for once grow a pair..this will mean doing a little bit of work on your behalf and you will have to do some searching and phoning but hey it will not be handed on a plate to you..get the bank in court as they were a partner and should of knew the games red were playing...
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

from the Red website - this looks pretty clear to me as a standard buy now pay later? But looks like Barclays are no longer partnering.

Barclays Partner Finance (BPF) previously offered RED students a ‘buy now, pay later’ loan product, which was used by many training organisations as a way for the organisations’ trainees to fund their training courses.

Many of our customers who chose to finance their training with RED Instructor Training via BPF re-paid the loan in full within the 12-month interest-free period.

However, RED Instructor Training decided to review the payment options available to its trainees. RED now only offers an in-house payment option, which eliminates dealings with any third-party financiers, reduces the monthly repayments and improves the overall service we are able to offer our customers.
    Debt free 4th April 2007.

Thank you for your recent email, the content of which is noted.

As you may be aware, LVG Limited went into administration in February 2010 and
the business and brand of RED Instructor Training were subsequently sold to
Driving Results Limited. All the liabilities of LVG Limited remain with the
Administrators, who have informed us that there are no funds available for
    non-preferential creditors.

red no longer exist , its just a brand name , driving results ltd didnt take on the debts so our problem lies with barclays ,
barclays paid red thousands an now they have !!!!!!ed off with our money , an now red and drl dont have no money , so it looks like no one will get anything back  the new company dont deal with barclays now !!!!!!

That's two posts on this thread alone where the poster doesn't seem to be aware this wasn't an Interest Free loan.

The RED Scammers aside, How was this sold guys? Did they make out it was interest free?

What does the agreement you signed on the day say? Does it mention an apr or a Total Charge for Credit?

One person not knowing the loan carries interest fair enough..... but two??

Hi, My partner was not aware of the amount of interest he would be charged either and is going through the exact same disagreement as the people on here... He took out the policy a year before meeting me and after he moved in and told me about it I was disgusted that Barclays are getting away with charging so much interest 29.9% annually... he only earns around £120 a week at the minute and can't find a better paid job.. £50 of this is going on paying Barclays..He has rung barclays and also Red to try to get the payments lowered, at first they said he could but then changed their mind and said he could lower it for 12 months but would then have to pay the difference as a lump sum after the 12 months... We are getting married in July and the stress this is causing us is ridiculous, I m having to pay all the household bills and am a student so have to work full time as well..im exhausted!!!! If anyone knows of anyway to help us please could you let me know asap... And yes, I have whinged at him for not reading the small print before signing, but they should of informed him of everything before he signed!!! He has failed the tests a few times and so has given up. so for the £6600 he is paying to barclays he is getting absolutely nothing... this is obsurd!!!
