Coverplan not repairing brothers laptop

Hi,

My brother has a compaq laptop which he bought from PC World and has a cover-plan insurance.

Couple of wks ago, while he was coming down the stairs his laptio fell down so the screen was damaged. He has contact Cover-plan and laptop was sent for repair.

Today he received the laptop back with a note attached stating - laptop will not be repaired because its been misused - simply they trying to say is that my brother damaged it himself.

Is there anything he can do to sort this out?

Thanks
MS

  • I'm confused, I thought that he did damage it by dropping it. Have I misunderstood?
Have you read the t&c's to see if it covers accidental damage? If it doesn't check the household insurance.

yes it does cover accidental damage but they are saying that my brother genuinely damaged the laptop so they will not repair it.

Compain to PC world, Ive had a screen replaced under that plan before (accidental) although franky it took them 3 attempts to actually pick up the laptop. and probably would have been less stress to get it fixed elsewhere.
  • I would certainly say that this constitutes a "Mishap" which is listed as being covered on their page (Just search coverplan policy) I'd post the link, but as a new poster I'm not allowed

Coverplan repairs are carried out by the Techguys at their Laptop Workshop at Annesley in Nottingham. The calls are taken by their call centre at Nottingham, where I worked for 11 years. During that time I booked hundreds of repairs for both PCs and Laptops that were the result of accidental damage.

My advice would be to take the laptop back to the store you bought it from and ask that the unit be collected for repair from there. This makes it the stores issue and they'll certainly push the repair centre to do the repair quickly.
