setting up wireless in a home office outside the house - help!

Hi,
We are shortly going to be moving to a new house. We are with Virgin at the moment, and we think we'd like to stay with them. In this house we have a wireless broadband connection.
I've just looked up our new postcode on their website and it says that it's not in a fibre optic area but we can get broadband down the phone line. Currently we are in a fibre optic area and we have a phone line with Virgin.
My partner works from home, and the new house has an office, outside the house, probably about 50 feet or so from where a wireless router would be (this is all very approximate!). Would a wireless router work at this distance? And if not, what do we need to do? We are hoping to find a solution that will avoid having to get cables installed in the office, but we're a bit clueless and don't know if that's possible or not. He doesn't need mega fast speeds or anything fancy, just to be able to check some things online and send emails. We're on a very, very limited budget.
I'm so clueless that I don't even know if the fibre optic/phone line issue affects the wireless?
Any advice would be so welcome!

Your Virgin Wireless cable router will not work at your new property.
If you are moving to a non cable area then you will need ADSL broadband.
That is broadband down a BT telephone line.
Virgin offer an ADSL service, but this may not be the cheapest.
Find out what the name of the local exchnage, or the telephone number of your new property is.Use the samknows website to see which Internet Service providers offer a Local Loop Unbundled service as these will usually be the cheapest option.
Note most ISPs will supply a Wireless Modem/Router with new contracts.
50 feet should not be a problem, if it is you can use 'Homeplugs' between the router and the PC, these are devices that use your mains wiring to carry the broadband (Ethernet) signal between rooms. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
You could also try a wireless 'n' router (it'll say 802.11n wireless protocol - rather than 802.11b/g), they have an increased range of about 70ft indoors and 250ft outdoors.
You can get one from about £20 upwards - just do a search on google shopping for "Wireless n router" - and then double check it's 802.11n before you buy it.0
