Leaving 3 (and all the garbage that goes with it)
Options
I will most likely be leaving 3 when my contract expires and have a number of concerns/questions.
First off someone who claims to be from 3 keeps ringing me. I usually ignore the call as I recognise the number. The one time I did answer the caller was asking me questions about whether I am happy with the phone and the 3 network. I had to go as I was off on Holiday for a week. Has anyone had this - can you tell me if it is possible to barter for the phone you want (I want the Mio A701 which I can only get from expansys that I know of) I am happy to stay with 3 if they can offer me this phone, if not I will leave.
Secondly is the downright ghastly scam where you can only get your 6630 (my current phone) unlocked if you pay the network £15. This is the first phone I have had with this and Nokia should hang their heads in shame for allowing this.
Opinion wanted on the above ( based entirely on what I would get on eBay (prices fluctuate wildly looking at completed auctions)
Should I
Sell it as locked to 3
Pay for it to be unlocked
or (not sure if this would work, maybe someone knows) get a cheap PAYG sim on 3 and sell it as a package. Is the phone locked to the specific sim or just the network. Also does anyone know where to get a free 3 sim (none when I searched)

Had the phone call from someone asking about 3's service they told me they were from them...when I spoke to 3 recently they said the only contact with them had been in December
3 will usually allow an upgrade to the phones they stock, which is no difference to the other networks...shops will usually have phone which the network don't have (my sister had a sony w550i on orange from the cpw when it first came out....orange didn't do it at that time and actually told my sister when she rang up for mms setting they couldn't give them to her as they didn't do that phone and tough luck...I was there listening to the call!)
Most networks now lock thier contract phones...it sucks and they all charge around £15.00 to unlock. The 6630 is BB5 so no free codes for them
I would say pay the £15.00 to get it unlocked, you will have a much better chance of selling it then as 3 is still a newish network which payg tariffs are pretty crap compared to other networks.
If you cancel on 3 ask them to change it over to a payg sims they will send you one for free...also has £2.00 credit on themWelcome, rogerramjet.

Cheers for that. I will keep an eye on eBay prices and make a decision from there. I wont be able to convert my sim as I am taking my number with me - I have had it for 7 years and dont intend to ever change itWycombe Till I Die0

It's nothing to do with Nokia. It's the network operators that insist that the handsets that they supply are locked as they have subsidised the cost. Actually £15 is not too bad for a genuine unlock code, considering that you could easily pay £10 for it to be unlocked on a market stall. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
