Companys new handle on data protection

I have had a contract with VF for 12 months and have been with them for several years as has my wife, however the accounts have never been linked but are registered at the same address.

I recentally contacted VF to find out whether I could drop the tariff to a data tariff and move to another network or get a new 24 month contract as the phone I have is poor very poor ( xpress 5800 ) and I use it more for work now.....

They have outsourced/offshored there operations as the last few people who " do not know what I`m taking about " are either in India or South Africa and just "cant understand my problem"

My concerns where raised when I phoned VF about the above and they stated I couldnt move until June this year ( 60 days before the renewal date ), my wife also has a seperate contract/account with VF to which after they said you cant move I went down the my wife and I have seperate accounts and have been with you a number of years, this lady began divulging my wifes information / number / contract agreement date / phone type / past contract numbers....

Now call me a hypercondriact but surely this is breaking dataprotection, I have put this in writing and email but had no reply, is my concern all huff and puff, after all they have my account details.

Where did Vodafone learn of you hypercondria?

This is a very serious matter. Vodafone should not have access to any of their customers medical records.

Unless you're named as a third party on your wife's acc (and give them the passwrod/security info) there's no way they should have even mentioned her. That is a breach of the data protection act.
I'd bet that if you were to complain that call wouldn't have been recorded.

You could contact the data commissioner office, but with no actual proof (recording of the call) you wouldn't get very far I'm afraid.

What options do I have, I am seriously concerned they have my account details and I just want to walk away from them, they are even saying if I want to pay the remaining balance of the contract I have to pay about £150 on top for some sort of severence pay they make me sick baring in mind I have been with them about 7 years now and my wife about 12!

I sent a request off to the ICO suppose I will just have to wait and see if they take it seriously!!!
  • You need to contact VF and request a SAR (subject access request), It will cost you £10 and you will need to put it in writing,

Ask them for the address you need to write to and the proof of ID you will need to provide, Then you need to request in a letter that you want all the information they have on you, Including calls and notes on accounts.
