Cancelled Orange contract - Early Termination Fee

Hi,
This morning I cancelled my 18 month Orange contract, which was due to expire early March, and I've taken up a new 30-day contract with 3. After my next bill, I'm going to owe Orange around £40 for the early termination. My question is; is there anything actually stopping me from just not paying it? I have cancelled my direct debit to them so the money shouldn't go out. Is this illegal or just immoral? The way I see it, they will have had thousands off me in the 10-or-so years I've been a customer of theirs, so the small matter of £40 shouldn't be an issue, although I'm sure they won't see it that way!
Cheers,
Jamie

if you dont pay they'll just pass it to debt collectors, if you were contracted till march you still have to pay upto marchYes Your Dukeiness

For the thousands you have given them over the years, they have given you the service you requested, ie: a mobile package.
You can refuse to pay your final agreed £40 installment if you wish, But be prepared to have your credit rating well and truly trashed.
They won`t let you off and why should they to be honest.0 -
Fair enough, I didn't think there would be much chance of it.
Cheers!0
