    Hi guys,
Just wanted a bit of input on airlines.
Im flying 10th May in the afternoon and returning 14th May in the evening out of LHR, its my second trip to NYC.
Flight are all around the same price
    Delta £399
    Virgin/BA/American £434

Last few times Ive been to the states its been with United.

Anyone got any airline preferences out of that lot?

    Thanks

I'd prefer Delta. you still get free beers on the plane, you get more legroom than the other airlines, and even though the terminal is a bit grotty, immigration is normally very quick.

Also, at £35 less ($55), you've got enough money to pay for a taxi into Manhattan from the airport.

Just a follow up to a question I asked about buying films in the USA, I emailed the hotel we are going to be staying at to see if I could ship a couple of films to them via Amazon US and they said that it's fine to do that, has anyone else done this before??

Not entirely the same, but I've had things delivered to the hotel for the attention of myself and I've received them no problems.

Ensure that when you send it, it is FAO - YOUR NAME, and you have a C/O person name that is someone who works at the hotel where the mail will be received.

ideally, you should do this on your first day, because then you can put GUEST ROOM - 111 (or whatever room) on the address too, making it safer again.

I have done something similar aswell in the past.

Had three pairs of ugg boots delivered to the hotel for the day we got there. Stopped me having to tramp around the streets of soho to get to the ugg shop.

Just ask the hotel what they want you to put on the box, and tada.

Thanks for the advice, I will email the hotel again about what to put on the address label.

Hi guys, hope you can offer a bit of guidance. DH and I are thinking of NYC at either end of April or middle of may this year for 7 nights from Manchester. I've been to a travel agent today and got a price of £2034 (ouch!!) for both of us, direct flights with accomodation at Milford Plaza Times Square. Initially, I was hoping to get the week for about £1500 with central accomodation - is this unrealistic?
Do you have any suggestions to alternative accomm? What about hostels or apartments?
    thanks for any suggestions

BA for sure, don't really like flying with US airlines very different to our airlines I find alot of the staff/ crew have an attitude.
My last experience with Delta was not a good one, I got shouted at on the plane for asking for cream with my coffee and the airport staff at JFK were awful I sent a complaint letter in I will never fly with Delta again.
With BA you have complimentary food/drink, good luggage allowance, much nicer staff/crew and lots of flights each day i'd personally rather pay the extra.

  • We have always found it the other way round .......... with the American crew being nicer and more helpful , the last time we flew BA I was shouted at to return to my seat ! It just happened that I
was in the loo when the seat belt light came on. I just shouted back something like "That's where I am heading" But I muttered to myself hope your next poo's a Hedgehog !

But hey ho we all have different experiences !

    Yes thats true.

The airport Delta staff at JFK were much worse than the crew mind.
Onboard it wasn't a nice experience but just had to laugh at some of the crew. I only wanted some creme i'd just woken up and when he said do you want creme? I said no as I was sleepy and misheared. When I then asked him for the creme, gosh you would have thought i'd asked him to turn the plane back to NYC:rotfl:

Hi I know it's a difficult question to answer but just wanted an idea as I have never been to NYC before.

I am leaving on the 30th and will be staying for 6 nights. It is just what you would recommend for spending.

there are 5 of us- older kids have their own spends do you think £3000 will be enough spending money?

We have our basketball tickets and theatre tickets already paid and we get breakfast in our hotel. We are just wanting to do the usual tourist things- TOTR, Ellis Island etc and we are not huge shoppers.

I will have my credit card for back p but don't want to exchange too much into dollars. what do you think?

    Thanks

It all depends on what you need to do. When we went I budgetted

    $50 breakfast for 4
    $50 for lunch for 4
    $100 breakfast for 4

$200 spending money a day between us and then added on the cost of anything we wanted to do like empire state/top of the rock
