Best visa/mastercard for me?

Hi,
Looking for some pointers here as I know you are all clued up and will be able to help
I don't have any credit cards at the moment. I normally put everything on my switch card BUT i've now realised you don't get the same come back/after sales service should anything happen to the company.
So I'm looking for my first credit card.
I have no debts (other than mortgage) so no balance to transfer or anything like that.
I only really want to use it for buying things online, holidays, tickets for shows and flights etc.
I don't want to pay any fees to own it and will pay off my balance every month.
Any ideas what might be good for me?

Given that you will pay in full every month - and provided that you make absolutely sure that you do - my instinct would be to go for a cashback card.
With this type of card, you will earn a rebate equivalent to a percentage of your spend which is generally recredited to your account annually.
The highest payer at the moment is American Express (£5 incentive via Quidco at the moment) with their Platinum Cashback Credit Card, although this is not a VISA or MasterCard and is not as widely accepted as those brands.
The top paying VISA or MasterCard depends on how much you will spend on the card. Martin's guide suggests either egg:Money or Bank of Ireland. I'd suggest you give his guide a read.
Personally I have the AmEx Platinum as my 'main' card and a Halifax Cashback card as my MasterCard backup, but I don't believe that the Halifax card is available to new customers any more.
