Things to do in Weymouth?

Hi,
We are going on holiday to Weymouth in July, and are looking for things to do (as cheap as possible!) whilst we're there. There will be 2 adults, a 17yo, 15yo, 7yo and 1yo. I've looked on the clubcard website as I have quite a few vouchers, and have found Adventure wonderland and the Abbotsbury Swannery, gardens and children's farm. Does anyone know of other things to do close-by? Any help/tips much appreciated thanks!

They have some great boat trips from the Harbour. If you walk along you can take your pick and book some in advance. I'll try and get back with wome more info later as there are trips that are fast and fun that your eldest kids might enjoy!0

There is a beautiful big sandy beach at Weymouth which is good for young children. Also agree with Monkey World but quite expensive (unless you can find any offers beforehand). There is also a tank museum near Monkey World, I haven't been but my Mum has and says it is really good fun for all ages. Not sure of cost for this though.
Suggest you take a look at the Dorest and Devon (East Devon is only about an hour away) tourist web-sites for other things to do. If you go into East Devon Lyme Regis has a great family beach too, plus last year they had beach activities on to entertain children (free). Near Sidmouth is the Donkey Sancturary and that is free entry, suggest you take a packed lunch as the food prices are high. Both would be about an hour or so away from Weymouth.0 -
I read on the abbotsbury website that Lyme Regis beach is good for looking for fossils, which would please my 7yo greatly! The elder 2 would be able to chill on the beach (if it's warm enough) so think that's a good idea thanks!Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0

Monkey world, Bovington Tank Museum, Chesil Beach is a long high bank of pebbles between Weymouth and Portland - more interesting than it sounds! Old quarry workings on Portland, as well as the swannery there's tropical gardens at Abbotsbury, heading east there are plenty of interesting places on the Dorset Jurassic Coast - Kimmeridge, Lulworth Cove, Dancing Ledge, all with the possibility of spotting fossils, there's a Sea Life centre in Weymouth but I've not been recently.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0

The Nothe Fort is good. A walk around the harbour and crab fishing is fun.

I grew up on Portland and Weymouth is a fab place to be in the summer.
Don't know if it might appeal to your younger kids but there is a pirates graveyard on Portland, in the grounds of a ruined church. It's fairly well hidden, near a small cove (which has a million steps to it so not great with a small child - but not so many steps to the graveyard) but it's a beautiful place and some of the gravestones have scull and crossbones on them. It's above Church Ope Cove if you're interested and I think it's really special.
Oh and I second monkey world - it's awesome, you will spend hours there!0 -
We love that area of Dorset, I used to live at Bovington. The tank museum is quite expensive. If you go through there on a weekday there's a layby area that is set up to view the tanks on their usual daily routine.
There are lots of National Trust places, if you are members. We love Corfe Castle and then on to Swanage where there is a park area with walks along the coast. The walks can be short so's not to bore the teenagers, or you can just take an easy walk with the little ones to the coast where the views are lovely & you can see the isle of Wight.
Just outside Weymouth is a village called Osmington, with a lovely pub called the smugglers (or somthing similar), lovely pub food & again great views along the coast.
We are having a few days in March so will be doing all the above.
It's a lovely area. Enjoy.0 -
Monkey world looks great - will cost us about £42 to get in - but we're planning on taking packed lunches with us when we go out anywhere to cut down the cost a bit.
The tank museum looks good but it's a bit expensive. I've found a dinosaur museum which is close by so looking at that too. We're staying on a Haven site so there should be plenty of included activities there. Thanks for the suggestionsSealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0
