Please open malwarebytes, goto LOGS and post the WHOLE of the last logfile (Even though its clean)

"Free Registry Repair which repaired over 2000 errors between them yet the machine is still running slow"

~ I think youll find that was a VERY bad idea and youve probably made things far worsespeed
why would that have made it worse?

Hells bells a Celeron with 512MB memory running Vista...

You must be a very patient fellow indeed.

I suspect youve run a 'bogus' registry program
Even if its the legit one, removing that many 'registry errors' suggests to me its removed something it shouldnt have

I still await the malwarebytes log if you please

I'm surprised that Vista runs at all with 512Mb of memory, get yourself at least 2Gb and you'll see some improvement.
I found on my ancient laptop that defragging a few files at a time was the way to go on a very fragged drive. Just use the file view and tick a few files and see how it goes.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

A mate of mine got blagged by Comet that his laptop was 'the best in the shop' at the time
It was a dual core 2.2 gig which was definitely fast enough, but that 512Mb RAM brought it to its knees. It was REALLY slow
I upgraded to 1.5 gig which made a hell of a difference

    I am suprised too
I was thinking someone must have upgraded from xp without adding memory at same time
But no, it has a Vsta license key sticker on the bottom

I just remembered that a 1gb memory stick can act as a ready boost.
I just plugged it in and chose ready boost option but havent noticed much difference yet

Not something ive ever tried but 2 things come to mind ~

1 - if the USB stick has a very slow transfer rate then you wont gain anything
2 - im still under the the impression that you have a nasty on your machine
