Mobile broadband dongle

Bought one yesterday - Vodafone PAYG for occasional use. The instructions say to insert my sim into the dongle, but I didn't know I needed a sim for it. The only sim I have is in my mobile phone.

Could anyone explain why a sim is necessary (or is it optional ?) and where I could get one from?

Where did you get the dongle? If it came from Vodafone they should have supplied a SIM with it.

The place to get a SIM is Vodafone but I think they may only sell data SIM cards with a dongle

You can't buy a dongle from Voda without a SIM-it won't work without one (just think of it as a mobile phone)! Are you sure it's not already inserted? If not check the packaging for one.

It is true the dongle won't work without a sim card, but you can buy dongles without a sim card, it is true though the sim may already be inserted.

You can buy one second hand SIM free, but the ones you buy new from Voda will come with a SIM.
