I think I was being 'set-up' on the basis that the old *art, who pitched up with them believed he could undemine and wrong-foot me, which he launched into whilst the sisters wandered round.
If you're not risking losing your job (and I assume you're not going to fire yourself) I'd have informed him that the next time he wagged his finger at me he'd find a mousetrap on the end of it, and if he has any specific problems you, your partner, and all three of the muppets on his side could sit down together and discuss them.
That's completely unacceptable - do you need to continue doing business with them?Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

as I am self-employed and it was in an informal meeting on my own premises. .....
Prior to the meeting they had rather strangely specified that I was there alone and not accompanied by my partner........which my partner and I had discussed and decided to ignore anyway (although we decided he would just 'show-up' a few minutes into proceedings).
sorry, I snipped ruthlessly, but, even on own premises that would have alarm bells ringing for me, perhaps more so, and would make me want to make VERY sure there was someone else aware of wht was happening OFF premises as well as someone else on premises. Being in a situation ALONE with other people who specify they want you alone, especially when there is more than one of them is odd, and most employers would be wary about putting an employee in that situation without taking precautions.0 -

I have almost no experience of being patronised. I always find the little people very respectful toward meIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Was it you?
He looked a bit like you, but without that silly hat and pretend moustache, obviously

I think I'd be more annoyed if it happened in my own office! That space is yours, and the people coming in are basically guests. For me, being patronised in my own office is akin to finding these people riffling through your drawers, or playing on your laptop or something. Not acceptable in anyway!*insert witty comment here*0

I once had a job interview (for which I was well-qualified) with a prospective employer who ended it by asking 'What do you think my wife would say if I hired you to work with me?'. At the time I was too stunned (and young) to react, but I've thought up some juicy replies since. Getting some answers in stock for such patronising gits would be time well spent.0

What about the hoi polloi? Would you mix with them?
