nope still no luck as i have tried as 1984 suggested , is there anything else in the regions and languages>languagages tab that i need to have or must not have?
then when i press "Details" in the LAnguages tab it comes up with
"Settings" and the default input language is
English(UK)-US
and thebox below is "Installed Services"
shows
English(united Kingdom)
keyboard
.US
are these the correct combination to have?
thanks once again
Job done.

thanks kwikbreak for the graphics.
i was just about to reply to say that i have i great difficulty trying to change so that all the boxes say what it says on your illustration. by the way i am running my pc on xp and this problem appeared last nite after many trouble free months .
it sometimes tells me that the US Keyboard is being used and that when i reboot it will become the UK keyboard i want, but this is not so.0 -
If you've checked the above and still having no luck then might be worth checking the language button on the taskbar next to the clock. Here's a pic of it.
Just make sure it is set to UK english not American English.
Although I think if you had changed the other settings in control panel this would edit the language bar. But perhaps not. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
i have tried but i CANNOT even get the Default Input Language to say
English(United Kingdom)-United Kingdom
it just wont do it for me.0 -
is it time for a new keyboard?0

Using the picture above you need to click "add", then select "english (united kingdom)" and ok.
This should make 2 installed services appear in the main window.
You can now select the default input language "english(united kingdom)" from the dropdown menu.0 -
I bet it's a Microsoft plot

There's nothing wrong with the keyboard itself (or at least this screwup doesn't prove there is).
The question is why did it change - I suspect you may have the language bar set to display in the task bar (I think it does this by default) and have accidentally clicked it.
On my setups I always install the UK keyboard then delete the US one so I don't see it for long as the selector doesn't appear if you have only one keyboard option regardless of the option setting.0 -
its a good idea to remove all other KB languages apart from the english UK one.
often you find the USA kb one is left on the OS and it can cause problems.Get some gorm.0 -
i will try some of these very helpful ideas and let u know what happens.....
thanks for your reading and patience.
