Could it be a reduction on council tax? You get 25% off your bill if you live alone.

It's not an extra payment or to do with DLA, but thought it would be worth mentioning if you didn't know anyway.

Could it be the severe disability premium?

Do you receive MRC or higher for DLA, and does nobody claim Carers Allowance for you? If so, it will be the Severe Disability Premium on IS. You need to advise the IS Team that you now live alone.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Sorry to butt in on this thread but would anyone know if this premium is also available to ESA claimants.

    Thanks.

It doesn't seem to be mentioned here?:

However, it may be the person could be entitled to Income Support on top of the ESA if they are in receipt of DLA...? Have a look on www.entitledto.com

  • Thanks to you both for replies.
I will check out those two links, although not very hopeful as I think I am on Contribution based ESA whilst waiting for appeal date ( the usual - failing medical !!).
I have actually already tried claiming Income Support but was refused. I'm so confused as I'm new to benefits since being awarded DLA (middle rate care and lower rate mobility, but both being looked at again due to condition getting worse). However I'm learning a lot through this site, my thanks to all who share their experiences and knowledge, you help so much.:T

As far as i know you would get £25 as long as weather is really bad, it should appear on your bank statement under your NI Number, you are on Income Support so your covered, it doesnt matter if you have a house full, its paid out automatically, you get it to if on middle rate of Dla, they can be sly with paying out as you will have to ask them at Jobcentre if your area is triggered, you could also try to get INCOME SUPPORT TOP UP, you would be able to apply to this, if you have thier number give it a go as you cant lose, you might be better off by at least a £130 a week. Good Luck

i think the extra money could be carers allowance which is currently about £53.50

It sounds like the thing you're thinking of is Severe Disability Premium, one of the worst named benefits ever conceived.
