Do any networks offer eMail on PAYG?

Hi,

I have just got a Samsumg Tocco Lite (which can do POP3 eMail) from Tesco Mobile PAYG. However, the Tesco helpline have just said they can only set it up so I can receive eMails, but cannot send.

I tried Vodafone and after the helpline rep. checked with their tech. dept. she also said I wouldn't be able to send eMails on PAYG, only on PAYM.

Do any networks offer eMail sending on PAYG?

So long as you have internet access, you should be able to access whichever mail provider you like (subject to them providing POP/IMAP access). This is not a Tesco or Vodafone, monthly or PAYG issue, if you have a data plan that gives you internet access the only thing you need to do is configure your phone.

My bet is you have not set up the phone correctly. This link - http://forumuk.samsungmobile.com/PostsList.aspx?ForumPostID=151130 - is a person who can receive emails but not send them and their email provider is GMail. That should give you at least a starting point where you need to be going from.

Thanks for the reply. When I spoke to Tesco customer assistance to ask how much calls cost, when it came to eMail cost she put me through to the Tech. Dept. They said they would have to set something up their end to allow me to use the POP3 email, BUT I would only be able to receive them, not send.

Vodafone Tech. Dept said for PAYG customers they only send alerts saying email has been received and again I wouldn't be able to send eMails. Sending emails is for PAYM customers only.

I've checked my email providers webmail page and it works over WAP 2.0 so if worst comes to worst I can send emails via that.

But if I can find a provider who offers full email over PAYG, I'll switch to them.

Could you use Google mail instead of POP3? Forward your mail to Google, set the client up to work with your existing email address.
Its a useful system that works anywhere, not just on the phone.

Just spoke to a Vodafone rep. who said she has a PAYG phone and can send emails. Talk about mixed messages.

Can anyone confirm that they can send/receive emails on a PAYG vodafone phone? (I don't mean via browser/webpage but using the email function in some phones)

It's not uncommon to have an issue with sending e-mails from different internet connections. The problems arise due to measures that are put in place to stop people sending spam.


Can you confirm which operator you are with? Initially you said Tesco Mobile, but then you are asking questions about being with Vodafone.

This is what I'd do. Two ways of doing it:
Set up Google Mail to send email from your existing and use your Google account only for outgoing emails from your phone

Set up Google Mail to pick up all email from your old account and have the flexibility to send email from either a GMail address or your old one (and the benefit of the superior GMail interface!).
