Old TV, newish DVD recorder- can't watch one thing & record another?...

Options
Hello Everyone
Before I go out to buy a new TV, I thought I would tap into the collective knowledge here:D

I have an old Thorn TV, bought in 1995 when Rumbelows went bump- it's a CT-200R. I bought a Sony DVD Recorder about 3 years ago, with Freeview and a hard disc- model RDR-HXD560. Now that the analogue signal round here has been switched off, a minor inconvenience has become a pain in the backside!

I am unable to watch one programme whilst recording another. The DVD-R instruction book tells me how to do this, "set the TV to TV input". I am struggling though to adjust the DVD-R remote to control the TV- on the list of manufacturers, Thorn aren't on there. I've even scrolled through trying to retune using all code numbers between 01 and 99- but with no luck. I'm guessing that the instructions were written when both digital & analogue signals were being used.....

Whilst the instruction book is not clear, I am assuming that I only have a single digital receiver- and that's what I am recording from. So to watch one thing, and record another, I need another digital receiver- either a box, or integral in a new TV. Am I on the right lines?!:(

many thanks in advance

    Yes you are.

Or buy a Freeview PVR which will allow you to record 2 thinsg at once, record one and watch another or record two things whilst watching a recording.
