First Direct Application

I've been a long-time follower of this forum, but this is my first post, so hello to everyone!

I recently applied to First Direct online for a bank account, and have today received a pre-printed application form in the post to sign and return. Does anyone know if this is a good sign that I've been accepted (ie they don't send the form if they've already checked and declined you) or do they do all their checks etc once this form is sent back?

Many thanks!

normally full credit checks etc will be done after they recieve the form back and any supporting documents they have requested.

  • They do an initial check and then go fully into the checks when they get the signed application form back.

They do not do credit checks until you return the application. I returned mine on Friday. I'm waiting for a decision now. They still haven't credit checked me.

They do. They carried out a credit check on me the day I made the application online. They then made further checks when they received the paperwork.

I haven't been credit checked at all yet. Maybe because I'm an existing customer with a savings account?

Not sure on that one. I know they definitely carried out a full credit check the day I applied online and then when I sent the signed paperwork back they carried out further ID searches etc that showed on my credit file.
  • I had a full credit check carried out on me on the day of application, after submitting the online form. Then I got the forms and returned them - then they did a secondary, identity only check.

Have a mooch here - First Direct

The printed application form means little, it can be declined after you return it - as happened to me, and I use HSBC as well.

Isn't that cos you already have an account with them and used online banking to apply?
