MSE News: Barclaycard to launch cashback scheme

Clearly they are going after new customers with this offer whilst stabbing loyal customers like Stan5001 and me in the back. I too used to have a Morgan Stanley card and was very happy with it and their service. Then it became barclaycard and up to now things have gone on fairly smoothly. However, this month, having spent a lot on my card having paid for our family holiday with it because it gives 1% cashback on all purchases I find that I got less than £4 cash back. I have searched everywhere for information on this, the statements, their website, letters received from them ... nothing. I have just called them to be told the rate now is 0.25% up to £200, then 0.35% up to £1,500 and only triggers 1% after this amount. Cheers, well I won't be using that card for any more purchases and will be checking out the other cashback credit cards you list on your site.0

A trader's mark up is often very low. Big or small. I remember looking at Tesco's turnover a few years ago and remarking that if they reduced their prices by 6% (with no increase in sales) they would be a loss making company.incesticde wrote: »You ungrateful, tight git!

So having 4% deducted from income could, in that example, wipe out two thirds of profits.
(I know there are more dynamics around these things than the simplistic view I give above, but an extra 2% on the cost base of a firm can be a significant hit).0 -

I am sure that you would not accept a further 2% increase on your income tax would you! I would rather give my customers a direct discount (and already do to loyal customers) than fund this scheme. Sorry, that is just my opinion.
Dude, Look at the emoticon, I was taking the pi$$..
I realise that as a small business holder every penny is vital, I'm with you on this one
Sorry if you misinterpreted what I said, and sorry it took so long to reply (I've only seen this thread as it popped back up to page one)"I don't want to sound cold and un-caring, but I am those things so that's the way it comes out" - Bill Hicks0
