N97 Mini or Iphone

Hi hope someone can help me I’m not too good at looking up the best deals.

Currently I am on T-mobile and pay £30 a month and get £220 credit to use between texts/calls no internet or anything special. I use most of that and never go over so its perfect for me just would like more access to the net. I am due for an upgrade now and looking at new phones. I have been with t-mobile since 2003 as well. I’m looking at the N97 Mini or the I Phone. Does anyone have any views on what one I should get? Baring in mind if I get the N97Mini I can hopefully upgrade where as I phone I would have to change contracts. I have an ipod so getting it for music reasons doesn’t really bother me and to be honest I only text and call on my phone and browse the net.

  • Neither. Symbian doesn't work very well on touch screen phones, with the software on both the N97 and Mini version having had numerous patches to try and fix the defects.

The iPhone costs a bomb for technology thats still a few years out of date (camera, screen). If you want a phone to surf on, have a look at the HTC HD2. Like an iPhone with a bigger screen (with twice the resolution), faster processor and flash.

The only problem with the HD2 is that you have to put up with windows Mobile, which is a mostly unpleasant OS to use.

The N97 over the Iphone purely for battery life.

    Iphone is terrible.

Here is a review of them both side by side..

There is one more problem - You need very big pockets - it's quite massive for a "phone"!;)

Another opinion here having had both. Iphone wins as it just works whereas the N97/Mini have problems and I believe that many N97/Mini owners are currently lobbying Nokia for a replacement or refund. Yes the iPhone's battery is poor but I charge mine overnight and as long as I dont use the push email (I set it for once an hour) and turn off wi-fi when not needed I easily make it to the end of the day and that does include calls/texts/web browsing and watching Iplayer for at least an hour!
    Anyway it's just an opinion!

To be fair though, the HD2 comes with the HTC Sense UI on top of Windows Mobile and it's the got a proper capacative display (whoot!) - first time on a Windows Mobile device.

Agree, traditional Windows Mobile sucks but there have been huge strides in the latest versions and I think the Sense UI brings it back into the ring and ready to fight for a place.

It's actually only 5mm wider and 5mm taller than an iPhone (and actually 1mm thinner) but this means it can have a huge display, 4.3inch @ 800x480pixels - so swings and round abouts...

Plus it much higher spec generally than an iPhone...

    .. yeah, I'm considering one... :D
