Yep, as I said, you will have to pay the excess if you claim for damage to your own car, if your insurance company later gets the money back from the third party then you get the excess back. If you’d gone after the third parties insurance company direct then you wouldn’t have had to pay the excess. My OH was involved in a crash last year in which we had to stump up the excess before they would even look at getting the car fixed, but then reclaimed it from the other party to refund it to us. The person emerged from a junction without looking and whacked my OH, and admitted liability, but we still had to stump up at the start.
The last one I actually read gave free full cover in Europe with no need to even notify them. I think there was a time limit of 90 days a year with a 30 day max trip length. My bad on the second one, didn't realise there was a minimum they had to give for foreign cover. Still not a lot though. And virtually useless to most people unless they get the 'upgrade'. Often seems to be time limited as well ie, you can be out of the UK for 30 days say. Anything more needs permission from them first.0 -
With virtually all Insurers you do not pay an excess if your not claiming for your own damage eg the other party claims off your policy for their repairs but you decide not to claim for your repairs in addition with virtually all policies there is no excess to pay if you have an accident and only have Third Party Only or TPF&T.0
