thankyou everybody. ive accepted the situation.
just updated morethan quote, increased it by £70!
might start another thread, i dont understand insurance:
3rd party fire and theft:
£200 excess
example 1
accident, my fault
£600 damage to my car
£1000 damage to other parties car
My insurance company pays for ALL the other parties fixing costs????
I pay £200 for my own damaged car to fix, and my insurance company pays £400 towards my repairs????
And i make a claim and i lose my no claims bonus, correct?
Example 2
Accident, NOT my fault
£600 damage to my car
£1000 damage to other parties car
£200 excess
Do i still have to pay £200? towards what?
Do i make a claim?????
Do i lose my no claims bonus???
My car is worth less than £1000 i think.
i dont know what insurance policy to get.
any advice would really help.0 -
If you take 3rd party insurance doesn't pay to repair your car, unless is theft or fire, they only pay to repair the 3rd party's car. If their car is damaged due to your fault you pay the first 200 and insurance pays the rest.
If your car is damaged by someone else and it's not your fault, then their insurance pays for repairs on your car, you don't pay excess.0 -

thanks.
so i pay for all of my own repairs.
so i have to pay £200 towards the others repairs, ON TOP of all my own repairs???? thats alot.
so if my car is damaged by someone else, do i make a claim?
insurer told me:
If you have an accident , you pay the excess . If this is then settled as a none fault, you will receive the excess back.
Q:i pay the excess toward damages to my car or the other persons??
A: Your own car.
so they are saying i pay exess towards damages to my car, and then they pay the rest........??0 -
Do you have third party or comprehensive insurance?
You only pay the excess when you are getting your own car repaired by your own insurance company (ie if you have comprehensive cover).
With third party cover, accident damage to your own car isn't covered by your insurance.
If a third party is responsible, then you need to claim directly from the third party. If they accept liability, then all your costs will be reimbursed.0 -
As far as I know 3rd party only covers you if your car is stolen, on fire and for damages to the other person's car. Fully comp would cover the damage on your car. If you are not at fault in an accident then your insurance recovers the money from the other insurance company towards the damage of your car. They might need you to repair your car first and submit the invoice to them.0

does a new insurance provider contact the previous insurance provider to ask for details of history?
I used to work in a sales department of an insurance company. When doing a quote and progressing through to the acceptance of the policy. A screen pops up called C.U.E (Claims Underwriting Exchange) which shows previous claims and whether fault or non fault. As far as i am aware not all insurance companies have this.
It is not worth lying and saying you have had no accidents albeit a very minor one. My place of work do check for previous undeclared claims should a claim be made, and i have seen insurance policies voided from start and the claim rejected. But usually what happens is you have to pay the extra premium (calculated from start of policy had you declared the accident) before any claim is dealt with.
Also many insurance companies ask for proof of no claims bonus - usually renewal notice (most companies show previous claims history on the renewal notice). If this is not provided many insurance companies will call up the previous insurer to ask for proof of no claims bonus and will find out his way.0 -

i have fully comp now, but seeing as my insurance has increased with this LOSS accident, im thinking get the CHEAPEST NO FRILLS insurance, i cant afford expensive insurance.
but i still dont understand third party fire and theft.
sorry, but please read those examples i posted.
my fault = i pay excess for their car damages + all my own repairs?
not my fault = do i lose money? do i make a claim? do i lose no claims bonus?
all the people ive spoke to say as long as ive got my current no claims bonus intact, there is no need to mention this scratch incident for future insurance deals.0 -

Just answer the questions the insurance company puts to you honestly.
By the way, cheap insurance can be a big headache if you have to make a claim.0 -

this is the thing, i have NEVER made a claim.
i have 3 years no claims bonus, in written proof.
yeah the only thing is if i have an accident and need to make a claim and my insurance start doing some leg work to get out of it, saying i didnt declare this scratch incident.0 -

exactly, moneysupermarket website didnt even ask about losses or damages or accidents, so ive been give quotes which completely ignore this aspect.
ALL insurance is a headache. I paid full whack last year,,,,,,for what? for them screwing me the one time i call them for some advice..... bloody customer services..... ive heard too many horror stories with insurance companies, i distrust the lot.
go watch Sicko documentary.
cheap insurance, if my car is written off, i just scrap it and buy a new one.
the other car? the other party will have to deal with my insurance company, not me.....correct?0
