I usually wait a few hours and then choose people who:

    1) Use decent spelling and grammar - obviously it doesn't mean that I expect it to be perfect - being able to string a coherent sentence together without using txt.

    2) Someone who sounds friendly.

    3) Someone who asks to be considered rather than demanding it.

    4) Please and thank you goes a long way.

    5) A general indication of collection availabilty is also good as is a willingness to work round my diary rather than the other way round.

    Hope that helps

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Hi marmalize,

As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've added it to the existing one on freecycle etiquette to keep the replies together.

  • Well my broken dvd player was collected :) I'm so glad my first Freegle went smoothly, I'm easily put off, so was worried the guy wouldn't turn up! He wasn't exactly friendly, but he sent a perfectly polite email and turned up when he said, so I'm not complaining! I have to remember that not everyone has the time or inclination to stand around nattering with complete strangers...

So I've stuck the rest back on as I wanted to try out EcoBees, I can put up with them a little while longer and if they are on one they might as well be on both!

Thanks again for all your help :)

The last couple of days there's been about 15 posts on my local Freegle, all from the same person and all wanting something. Not just anything but things such as 'I'd really like an X Box 360 as mine has broken' or 'I'd like a leather sofa as our's is tatty' or 'I'd like a Sky+ box with card and remote as my ariel is rubbish'. I feel like replying and telling them that they're shooting themselves in the foot.

There's also one who posted that they'd like a 'fully working Quinny (something) buggy with rain cover and (something else). Surely if you were that desperate for a buggy, you wouldn't be that specific, would you?
  • I'd appreciate a little insight from people more familiar with how Freecycle works than I am.

I posted a message on Wednesday evening offering an item. I understand messages need to be moderated - however nothing has been updated now for 48 hours.

As I did the post via the Yahoo Group I have no way of knowing for sure that my message went through and I am feeling a bit annoyed as I had hoped to get rid of the item tomorrow - however at this rate it looks as if the message won't even show until then.

Is this normal? I had expected to wait 24 hours perhaps but 48 seems a bit on the long side.

Yes, Charlie, I would have expected to see a message come up within a few hours. More than 24 hours and I would think that the message has been lost.
Is there a way you can contact the moderators / admins of your board?

Not sure if this is in the right section but please move if need be.

I offered an old fron toor on freegle and had 2 replies so contatced first 1 to reply and offer it to them and suggested to time to come and collect, well that time has now been and gone, should i leave it until tonight before i offer it to the second person who replied ?

i would obviously contact the first 1 to reply and say as you hadnt collected it its now been offered to someone else

    thanks
  • There is a thread on Old Style somewhere called Freecycle Etiquette, just put that into the search this forum box and you should find it. :)
