I have reposted a couple of items in the past that haven't got any replies from the first time and have then had a couple of replies and got rid of the goods.

I normally leave it a couple of days first.
There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion
  • I reposted and *fingers crossed* one of my broken things is going to be collected on Tuesday!

The rest I'm going to try on http://www.ecobees.com/ before resorting to the tip.

Thank you for helping a nervous freegle virgin :o

The sob stories usually get deleted, but dont mind if they specify its for a child. Usually reply to the first decent person who asks politely and NOT the one who states "when can I collect?".

When I have put printers on in the past, I have put that I would like it to go to a child or charity.

  • As PP says, sob stories go and 'when can I collect?'s go, also anyone referring to 'the item' and not mentioning what it is goes (probably a standard email sent by someone who replies to everything), lacks of 'please' and 'thank you' go too. I also have a list of members who have failed to collect from me before which now don't get a chance.

I usually wait a couple of days to give everyone a fair chance - not everyone (esp those in need) have the facility to check email every hour of every day... And then I choose the most polite response I get who perhaps tells me a bit about why they want it.

The "when can i collect" and the "can you measure it and send me a picture!" people get deleted immediately :D
  • I don't know about other groups but on ours people can use the FOP - fair offer policy. It means you set a time - say 48 hours - and after that time has passed read through the replies at your leisure. If someone lists somethings as "Offered: FOP" the people replying will also know that it hasn't gone to the first person who replies.

Personally for it depends on how quickly I need to get rid of the thing I'm offering. Sometimes I want it gone ASAP and so it will go to whoever can collect it first.
  • I search the freecycle site and select the person who has offered the most

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time

I usually choose the person who says thank you and provides some information on when they can collect. The worst thing is choosing someone who then says they can only come at some ridiculous time or who expects you to hang on to the item for days. So I now like to choose the person who gives me some idea of when they will be available.

I sometimes search the messages to see if the person has given items before, but I don't think it's that accurate. I know quite a few people who tend to respond to 'wanted' posts rather than post on the group.

I too delete all the sob stories. Half of my town seem to be living in a depressing country & western song if my freecycle group is to be believed!
