    Hi -

non working things can often go really well on freegle - so feel free to put them on your local group! If no takers there should hopefully be an electrical items recycling point at the tip..

As to the chair, you could try putting your wanted up just after your offereds.... :)

The Wanteds are however hilarious the week before Rocky Horror gets into town though...

Wanted: Basque suitable for 6 foot tall rugby player.

Someone was asking for a Santa costume in July trying to get their Xmas party outfit lined up good and early on our group a while back!

I agree with lots of comments here. I realise that once you give stuff away that is the end of your claim on it, but surely the reason many people bother to offer stuff for free is to keep it out of landfill AND attempt to do the right thing. Someone on our freecycle gave away 10 jackets yesterday to a woman who then put them straight on ebay!

I realise that is her right but the lady who had given them away found out and has gone mad (quite rightly). What we need to remember is people will just take stuff to charity shops/dump them rather than have their generosity exploited.:)

Thanks, that's good to know! I suppose I should just give it a go and see if anyone wants my broken stuff!

As for the chair I think I'll see if one comes up, if not then I'll put a wanted up... I'm still scared I'll be accused of offering a load of junk then asking for something decent - silly, I know, when I read about what some people ask for!

do you not just hate the text speak and bad manners/cheekyness that people email you wanting goods.

If I want something that is offered my first line is "please would you consider me for"
I always finish with "Best regards and take care"

never give your phone number until they offer the item to you as this also pees them off.
ALWAYS BE ON TIME!!!! when collecting

    be polite at all times!

    Best regards and take care

I dislike the fact that I offered some furniture in our local paper for between £5- £10/ item (original cost £100- £500 per item) and only sold one thing - but had dozens of responses to the items on freecycle. I know some people have no money - but not some of the ones that collected the items, judging from the labels they wore/ vehicles they drove - it really was a case of wanting something for nothing.
Two reasons for this that I can think of...
    1. When wanting something large, some people might not think of eBay as most items on there will be too far away to collect. (I know you can limit a search to within a distance of a postcode, but not everyone does.)

    2. I would trust someone giving something away for free to describe it correctly. They have no reason to lie. I wouldn't always trust an eBay listing as there is a reason (i.e. more money) to "big it up". E.g. a fridge on freecycle that "worked last time I tried it" sounds worth having while if looking at a fridge on eBay with the same description I'd run a mile.
  • I did it! I offered my stuff! It's been on for a week, but I've had no interest :(

Is it acceptable (or even possible) to 'bump' or resubmit my offer? I'd like to give it another chance before I arrange a lift to the tip!

When offering something very sellable you can put a note on your offer stating that you are giving them away to be used, not to be sold on - and at least you are making yourself clear and you can at least let the mods know if you find this has not been adhered to. When offering some very expensive music tech stuff a while back I stated that these would be offered only to a registered and checkable project/charity/youth group - didn't stop a million emails from bedroom dj's - but those who were from a project gave the appropriate details for me to check and they were handed over to a very good home.

    Just post it again.

How central to your group's location are you? We're on the edge of two different ones so if something doesn't get any interest from posting in one then we'd post it in the other. You have to wait 48 hours before posting the same item in two different groups.

If you think what you've got is worth having then definitely re-post it. If you've had no interest after a week then it's never going to go from that original posting.
