. Syrup mixes easier with the vodka. Keep the bottles/jars in a dark cupboard and shake once a day. I would also deseed the cherries before covering with the vodka. Fill Jar with cherries pour insome syrup and then cover with vodka. Leave for at least 3 weeks before testing. the longer you leave it the stronger the cherry flavour.
:T I just made some
I'm going to buy some more Vodka and make some for xmas gifts too.
Thanks so much for the fab idea - I have just filled a mixing bowl with cherries from our tree and have probably only picked about 1/4 of them - there's sooooooo many :TSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
On my walk home yesterday I spotted four huge cherry trees. The cherrys were very dark, almost black. Does anyone know what variety they might be? Are there any cherries which are inedible?
Also I have another huge tree in my garden which has what looks like small green plums on. I've tried the fruit a few times and its bitter. The fruit seems to ripen and drop all at once, within like a week. What could this be?
Hope you can help...

Very dark cherries are probably morello or similar so cooking ones.
What colour do the small plums go when ripe? if black and tiny then probably sloes, otherwise gages, damsons and cherry plums are all quite small in various colours. Either google for pictures or take a picture of yours and it'll be a bit easier to tell.
