Hi. My mum as quite bad arthritis in her knees and ankles and would like one of those chairs where you can raise the footrest by remote control and which is also a riser. She would want a twin motor one as she almost came a cropper raising both ends of her bed while she was practicing the remote :rotfl:. She did have a nice man round from Craftmatic (the ones that make the beds too?) and was quoted about £3000 for a chair or discount for buying more than 1, which she thinks is far too much for a chair. I've done a bit of checking around and have seen several for about £750 - £1100, so can anyone give any recommendations or good places to buy from please? Apart from the above requirements, mum is quite "round" so nothing flimsy would do. Hope you can help. Thanks, Sue

I would contact my local Disabled Living Centre for advice. They often have different types of larger equipment for you to try out, so it would be ideal if your mum could visit (I think you have to book an appointment - you do at mine). Otherwise, they will send literature for you to read, including dimensions of furniture, so you can make a more informed choice.0

My Dad has the Colorado Riser Recliner £490 and it seems very substantial.

Thanks both for your replies, much appreciated. I will investigate both options further.0

I admit when I read the thread title I had visions of a remote control chair like a remote control car, and Mother being zoomed all over the house whether she wanted it or not! :rotfl:
Sorry I can't be any help, hope you find something suitable!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I really had to laugh when she told me she'd folded herself up in the bed too because it turned out ok afterwards - you really do have to laugh sometimes don't you!0 -
I hope you find a good chair, mine is worth every penny of the £700-ish I paid.
Your mother will not have to pay the VAT as arthritis is a permanent condition, details here:

part 4.3 specifies "a hoist or lifter designed for use by invalids. This includes lifting seat chairs;"
I just had to fill in a form at the furniture shop.

Thanks for that info. Do you mind if I ask what chair you have?0 -
My husband finds his la-z-boy one with dual motor excellent.
think it is a Cuba model. The foot and back motors work independently of each other. Very important for him as though he needs his feet up he doesn't want to be reclining.0 -

I always think of the tv programme Friends for these. Can just imagine mum with a can of beer in the armrest playing on a playstation :rotfl::rotfl:
Seriously though, do they have a remote control for the lifting?
Thanks. Sue0 -

I've got a Sherbourne 1612.
Once the arthritis started to bite, I couldn't manage the sofa anymore & DH's armchair was no better so I splashed out & have appreciated it every day since.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0
